Why Eden of the East?

Been following the series very closely and I haven't been this excited bout a series since Ouran HSHC. My reasons?
...the mystery
If there is anything that could draw me into a series is the mysterious characters and the need to find out about their backgrounds. The whole premise is simple in that Akira is competing with 11 other people to save Japan. Their methods range from equipping a hospital to castration. How and why they were chosen is still not revealed.

...the art
So Eden has been called the troll for people who watch artsy anime. True it's been frustrating, but the smooth animation and art is better than what a usual series has. Not to mention the awesome opening and ending sequences.

...AKIRA TAKIZAWA
He's not whiny. Not a harem collector or a confused emo kid, he is a terrorist. ;) No really, I could watch him all day.

...Juiz
"Nobelesse Oblige--May you continue to be the messiah."
I don't mind not having the large amount of money, if I have a concierge as lulzy as Juiz.

The series might not end soon since we are expecting two movies means more rollercoaster rides with Akira and the Selecao.

Spring Season

I'm not as attached to the Winter Season as some bloggers. The lack of series catching my eye made me doubt whether I'm really on the downward spiral to actually losing interest in anime altogether. Though, thank goodness to Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou and a very late discovery of Mushishi, I might have saved myself. I'm quite inclined to watching dramas again. Almost done with Mei-chan no Shitsuji and currently trying to get distracted by Maou. (Ohno should never dye his hair ever again!)

Other ideas for posts? I might make a post about the finales I watched. (Yes, I cheated and watched the episodes which seemed interesting.) I should do a Mushishi post since people have not discovered this rare gem. As predicted, I'm left to run this blog, which is not much trouble considering no one, but ourselves wonder into the thing.

As for the the upcoming spring season, I might watch Pandora Hearts (hopefully the manga won't ruin the anime experience) and of course Fullmetal Alchemist. I would have to give props to my brother for getting me to watch the first season. Even if Allariel scoffs at this FMA, I'll still watch it, especially since Funimation will air the episodes 4 days after the Japanese ones.

Back to Watching Tokusatsu

The recent anime line-up has led me to despair. I'm still interested in Gundam00 and Soul Eater and am following Skip Beat! but other than reading blogs the fandom isn't that addicting. Am actually quite late in watching, missing 4 episodes at most. Enough of my watching habits.

So the 2009 tokusatsu are showing since last week. There is the samurai themed Shinkenger (with Aiba as Blue Ranger) and Kamen Rider Decade (a TRC-like series of the previous 9 Kamen Riders). Honestly, I didn't get to finish the series predecessors. Might do it when school stresses me out, tis fun to watch giant fake monsters throw people around and make cars explode.

World Wars made interesting

Italy, once home of the strongest empire in the world, has changed. This is the story of Italy, now a cowardly pasta-loving fool, and his friends (other personified countries of the world) as they live through strange moments in world history. --ANN

Hetalia Axis Powers is one of the series premiering this anime season. The series itself started as a webcomic and had a steady following with scanlations floating around the Internets. MAD vids of the characters dancing to various anime openings found their way into youtube. I would summarize the series as the crazy antics of anthropomorphic personifications of countries/nations involved in both World Wars. Sadly, I can only name a handful of characters mainly Japan, Italy, Germany, UK, US, and France. The others I can pick out by their "lovely item" (e.g. Spain and his tomato).

In answer to poor clow's request

Yes, I'm typing this up more than a month late. I have, quite honestly, been at a loss as to what I can possibly say that would be of any interest to anybody. But, alas, fandom is a very powerful force.

I'm not entirely
sure when I started being a follower of anime. I do recall going home certain to watch Cardcaptor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth in third grade.

Those are two possibilities - it rather frightens me to think that shows such as Sky Dancers and He-Man could play the part. I remember being infatuated by the graceful, stoic, silver-haired Yue. I also wanted to take away the equally, if not more serious, dark character that was Lantis away from Hikaru.

There is also Yu
Yu Hakusho, which I watched some time before that (although under the name Ghost Fighter). I seem to always have had a special quiet character in mind so Kurama was the one in this. I think the world understands why. Foxes are adorable :D

Those could form my top three. I was watching them in Filipino. I was basically a child then and was not aware enough to be as horrified as I am now of local dubbing. I also got well into Fushigi Yuugi very soon after. Anime stations started popping up, you see. Addiction ensued.

I am now a greater, far more frightening fangirl than I was then. I was more a religious watcher who followed everyday episodes than a rabid fan then. In this world where I am now capable of DVD marathons from sunset to sunrise (and yes, I did not get the order wrong), may the world beware!

What am I doing here?

Could prolly say that three anime started me in this dark dangerous irrevocable road to fandom. When asked, people with extensive anime backgrounds would mention DragonBall and Sailor Moon to have taken their anime virginity. The first time the mere idea of fandom became a part of my life would be 1st grade when I was six. Yes, I was corrupted at such a young age. Woe is me.

I'd blame my good friend, but she started it. Gundam Wing was showing at a local channel around the time I got out of class. It was easily one of my favorites with all the giant robots, angst, romance, and crazy suicidal Heero moments. Dubbing wasn't much of an issue, since I still think Filipino dubbers are better than American ones. With that said, Gundam Wing got a me to hunt down lyrics for "Just Communication" and "Real Emotion". Was prolly too young to be picky about the Engrish. Also, made a faux wedding invitation to Relena and Heero's wedding collaborated on by me and said friend. Yes, this was also the start of my shipping days. Until, now I'm still into the mecha scene prolly more inclined toward Gundam and Macross.
Akazukin Chacha

Then came Akazukin ChaCha...It's wacky, illogical, cute, and downright fun. I wouldn't recommend it for first time watchers, but tis a good watch for people willing to try something classic and chibi. Oh gahds, the chibi kills me.

Four years after what could be called my first encounter, came Fushigi Yuugi. How many people would voluntarily watch a show in 3 different languages in a week? It doesn't help that this show had the infamous Nuriko episode that had me and my brother in tears. The show also introduced me to the perviness of anime, bishies, damn plot twists, undying annoying characters, and the power of love! Even if I'd rather bury my head in shame and burn all memorabilia of the Fushigi Yuugi days, it's still here on this list, haunting me...

I ask myself sometimes where I'd be without these shows. Would my life be more peaceful? Would I be the same person? I mean, not to sound cliche, but however much we deny it, we are what we watch. It makes one think, doesn't it?

Welcome.

Another animeblog you say? Yes, another in the long list.

time

Three years of watching -coughstalkingcough- animeblogs began with a chance encounter with Garten's then the subsequent discovery of Random Curiousity. Now, I'm an avid fan of THAT and the bunnies of Scrumptious.

Am crossing my fingers that my friends (rather large emphasis on the word) would care to join me in this project. And please don't be put off by the formality of the post, best to blame technical writing and lab reports. Yes, a warning. The blogger(s) have a science/technical background going as far back as high school.
Again welcome.
